Some useful facts for future visitor:-
1. if you stay at Niteroi (ie other side of the Guanabara bay), you will need to use either bus or ferry to Rio. From there, take municipal bus or metro (or underground train) to reach Copacabana. No private car is allowed into Rio city.
2. it will be VERY hot (it was 36deg Celcius, hottest in whole Brazil), dressed down. In fact, you can skip the shoes and socks. Use bermudas and slippers, and you can go dance at the beach without worry about blisters on your feet later.
3. it will be very packed, so don’t bring any fake Rolex or hang your camera. Blend in.
4. if you are want to use metro (or underground train) you will need to buy special ticket in advance. You can’t buy it on the spot. I thought this definitely is not a smart move, but that’s the way it is.
5. be prepared to be squeezed like ‘sardines in can’ when you use the bus. How many bus is needed to take the 2million fellas home? From what I saw : continuous flow of sardined bus.
6. if you want to stay at hotel at Copacabana, be ready to cough a hefty sum. All hotels are packed for this period, you won’t get cheaper fare even if you make reservation 3 years in advance.
7. most important of all : don’t forget to buy your champange & a few plastic glasses in advance! Its a must to celebrate with your fellow friends or loved ones.

Cheers!!
Feliz Ano Novo, amigos!
